![]() On top of that, I would personally add that StS works precisely because it takes great ideas from the board game world and not only transfers but enhances them in the digital medium. ![]() Slay the Spire and others work so well because we get to enjoy those broken combos that literally every single TCG community complains about, but we're not forcing someone else to be on the receiving end of it. When this kind of deck encounters other players, even cooperatively, it's inherently unfun because not everyone can have that slamming deck, and there's an inevitable feel-bad moment waiting for someone. You're not trying to have a balanced deck, but one which can wipe the floor with anything it encounters. To paraphrase, Efka's point boils down to the idea that in games like Slay the Spire, a lot of the joy and challenge comes from trying to build the most degenerate and broken deck possible. I think No Pun Included actually made a great video on the subject not too long ago.
